thank you for your quick response.
In the mean time I have installed the Ubuntu 8.04 wich by the way
includes your xdebug as package and it just works. Eclipse is the same
version, so is PDT. I don't know wich change made the difference..
Output buffering was/is disabled in both installtions, so this can not
have been the problem.

I know. This is what Eclipse also does. When I said, I could not use PHP
debugging I ment rather that the debugging of one page never ends
(unless forced) and this makes debugging unusable.
So I am happy now that I can use xdebug again on the new installation.
Are you still interested in tracking down that problem? If not, I would
discard that buggy installation someday in the near future.
