[xdebug-dev] missing (still) Makefile.in for/from xdebugclient configure

revisiting an old-ish matter:

i've a successful build of:

php -v
        PHP 5.2.0RC5-dev (cli) (built: Sep 26 2006 20:56:59)
        Copyright (c) 1997-2006 The PHP Group
        Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2006 Zend Technologies
            with Xdebug v2.0.0rc1-dev, Copyright (c) 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005,
2006, by Derick Rethans
            with eAccelerator v0.9.6-dev, Copyright (c) 2004-2006
eAccelerator, by eAccelerator

php -i | grep -i dbg
        DBGp - Common DeBuGger Protocol => $Revision: 1.98 $
        xdebug.remote_handler => dbgp => dbgp

on OSX 10.4.7.

a subsequent attempt to build 'debugclient':

        cd /usr/ports/xdebug-cvs/debugclient
        ./buildconf
        ./configure \
        --prefix=/usr/local/xdebugclient \
        --without-libedit

fails during 'configure' at:

                ...
                checking whether to use libedit... no
                configure: creating ./config.status
                config.status: error: cannot find input file: Makefile.in

where, in fact,

        xdebug-cvs/debugclient > ls -al Makefile*
                -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 644 2003-09-22 02:04 Makefile.am

this was commented a while back as an autoconf incompatibility.

any fix/progress?
